Anita Ekberg

Marianne (Swedish pronunciation (listen), 29/09/1931 11/01/2015) was a Swedish
actress, well-known for her beauty and striking figure. Her performance as
Sylvia in Federico Fellini's 1960 film La Dolce Vita (1960) has made her a
household name. Ekberg performed her work mainly in Italy which is where she
was an permanent resident in 1964.Anita Ekberg was born on 29 September 1931 in
(Sweden) and was the sixth child of eight. Anita was a model during her teens.
On the advice from her mother Ekberg was a contestant in Miss Malmo in 1950.
This resulted in her winning the Miss Sweden contest. Even though she spoke
very little English she travelled to the United States to compete for the 1951
Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant in that period, the pageant was
officially launched in 1952). Although Ekberg didn't win the Miss Universe
pageant, as one of six contestants, she did earn an acting contract with
Universal Studios. She was a Universal starlet and took lessons in
dramatization, elocution horses,
horseback riding and elocution. She was briefly featured in The Mississippi
Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello (as an actress on Venus), Take Me to Town
(1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
