Patricia Velásquez
Creativity isn't limited to the
photographs, canvas as well as film and other media. It is also a catalyst for
philanthropy, charity, and activism. Patricia Velasquez is an award-winning
actress and a history-making supermodel. She is also a dedicated patron of
charity. Author activist, activist, author, and loving mom. She is a strong
believer in intuition and a pioneer of her own way. She says, "I see my
career as a long ladder." "I have taken every step. It was incredible
to do this, as there is a sense of determination. I just laid my head down and
moved one step at a time. And then, it was done. The metaphor directly
resembles a formative experience. She was born in Venezuela but was raised in
France or Mexico. After only several years she decided to relocate to
Venezuela. In South America her parents worked in education. They moved their
family to an apartment complex without running water or elevators. Patricia
often carried large buckets of water over 15 flights of stairs in order to get
water. Between engineering studies and a rigorous dance program and work, she
was determined to help the family in every way. In the process of being scouted
to model in Milan, the multi-talented model's rise to the top of the fashion
industry was based on a promise made to the people she loved. She recounts,
"When they asked me whether I wanted to travel to Italy to model, I
responded, 'If you can send 30 bucks a month home to Venezuela then it's worth
it, since that will pay the entire cost of water for the building's
construction'." Patricia's success marked a turning point for fashion as
she was the first to draw the attention of the industry to South America. Her
"first model Karl Lagerfeld photographed" was an amazing
breakthrough. The model went on to be featured in fashion shows in front
editorial spreads and even in commercials for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana
and Fendi. Her appearances in Oprah's Supermodel of the World contest as well
as Ford Models’ "Supermodel of the World" contest had a ripple effect
all over the world. In addition she appeared on the covers of Vogue, Bazaar,
Marie Claire as well as many other magazines.
