Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff (born 3 May 1986) is a
French actress from France. She received her training at the Cours Florent
drama school in Paris and has appeared in such films as Loup (2009), Sleepless
Night (2011) and Hacker's Game (2015). She is the voice of Mantis in the Marvel
Cinematic Universe films Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers:
Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). Pom Klementieff was raised in
Quebec City to a Korean father and a French-Russian mom. He was working as a consul
for the French government. Eugene Klementieff was her grandfather. Her parents
chose the name "Pom" due to the fact that it's like the Korean words
for both "spring" as well as "tiger". Klementieff was a
Canadian citizen for a single year. Her family had traveled extensively as a
result of her father's work. Before moving to France they resided in Japan and
on the Ivory Coast. Klementieff's father, who died in the age of five from
cancer was her mother. Also, she was suffering from schizophrenia and couldn't
care for her kids. Klementieff was raised with her aunt and paternal uncle. Her
uncle, whom she described as "like her father" died when she turned
18 and her brother, who was older, committed suicide seven years after, but
this occasion being her birthday. Klementieff briefly attended law school after
the death of her uncle in order to placate her aunt, but did not find the
career choice appealing. Also, she worked as a waitress in France and a
saleswoman. Her first acting experience began when she was just 19 at the Cours
Florent theatre school in Paris. She was just three months in her studies when
she was awarded an audition for a stage show that gave the opportunity to take
two years of free classes with the school's best teachers. Klementieff was the
first person to perform professionally in the independent French film Apres lui
(2007). She played the role of the step-daughter of the lead character,
Catherine Deneuve. The filming process took three days. In one scene, she was
to be pushed down a flight of stairs but fell down the stairs herself as did
director Gael Morel recorded that scene in the film. Loup (2009) was her first
leading role in a film. It's an French movie that tells the story of a tribe of
Siberian mountain reindeer herders. Klementieff was filming in the camp that
was located hours away from the nearest village. The camp was where
temperatures dropped to minus.
