Amy Carlson
Amy Carlson was born in Glen Ellyn in
Illinois and spent her childhood in Chicago. However, when Amy was in high
school, she and her family also lived in the Middle East where her parents, Bob
and Barb, taught at the American School. Amy is the oldest of three siblings:
Betsy, Lori, and brother Joe. Amy has travelled all over Europe with her family
and on her own. Her parents were teachers, so they had the opportunity to spend
their summers together in the campfire and travelling across the United States.
They've camped in every state, except Alaska. Amy traveled to Rwanda in 1994
after the war in order to help with aid efforts to help the victims. Amy
demonstrated artistic talent early on by acting in school plays, as well as
winning writing contests. High school was where she was a star athlete winning
the first ever 3200-meter relay to be held for girls in Illinois track. In
college, after an accident, she returned to the theater , playing a variety of
roles on stage starting with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and
directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy was a Knox
College student from Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated with a B.A. East Asian
history, with a specialization in Theater. After graduation, she moved to
Chicago where she pursued studies in Improv at The Improv Olympics, and acting
at The Actor's Center. An acting contract on the now defunct soap drama Another
World (1964) moved her to NYC immediately following her graduation. In the
category of "Outstanding support actress on the Daytime Drama
Series", she has been nominated to Daytime Emmy Awards. Her most memorable
roles have been those performed by women who are strong, such as Alex Taylor in
Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone ((2000)), Katie Owen and Tom Berenger in
Peacemakers(2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods(2003). Carlson lives in New
York City, with Syd Butler, her husband and Bassist of Les Savy Fav. She also
runs Frenchkiss Records, an independent music label, and is employed as
part-owner. Amy continues to pursue different and unique roles in the world of
film.
