Rosie Perez

Rosie Perez was the daughter of Lydia Perez, a merchant marine, and Ismael Serano. She was born in Bushwick Brooklyn, New York City. Rosie is Puerto Rican. Rosie was educated at Grover Cleveland High School, Ridgewood, Queens, New York. Then she began her studies at Los Angeles City College, Los Angeles, California. Rosie Perez was just starting her second year of college, and was about to go back to New York. Her friends had thrown her an occasion to celebrate her departure. Spike Lee offered her a role in his 1989 film Do the Right Thing (1989). She said yes. It was her first major role in acting. In Peter Weir's Fearless (1993), she played the part of Carla Rodrigo, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Artistess. She was defeated by Anna Paquin, for The Piano (1993). In my early days, my Latin community was responsible for most of the criticism I was subjected to. I remember them taking me out for lunch and telling me "Can you attend lessons to help you tone down your accent?" or, "When it's a talk show, how could you not be funny? My voice was a constant critic. I tried to improve my voice. Although I tried to change my voice, it was still not the way I spoke. My octaves dropped as I grew older, which is a good thing. Boxing is all about taking on your biggest fears. It's about fighting your own. Floyd Mayweather could be punched. A straight shot across his middle. Floyd Mayweather wouldn't blink. I can understand what he is doing. The person who spoke about Don Cornelius watching her dancingthe dance]: Don Cornelius didn't want to watch me dance. I was dancing hip hop that was unfamiliar to Californians. They were only familiar with locking and popping, so hip-hop dancing wasn't something they wanted to learn. Don was just like "No you don't. You're a girl. I was like"What? This is just so weird. This is really weird.
